Mayor Maria Lourdes "Malu" Paras Lacson

 

Maria Lourdes “Malu” Paras Lacson is a Filipino nurse and politician who is currently working as the Municipal Mayor of Magalang.

Raised in Magalang, she is the wife of Odilon Lacson, and is a mother of three–Kaka, Ia, and Basty.

Well-versed in health care, she refined her skills through years of education and experience. She graduated with Cum Laude in Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Angeles University Foundation (1994) and continued to complete a Master of Arts in Nursing (1996). In the year of 2014, she graduated with a Masters in Business Administration – Health (MBA-H) as a Silver Medalist in the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, Ateneo de Manila University.

At the age of 21, Malu began her work for the government as a Municipal Councilor for a total of fifteen years in the Municipality of Magalang, Pampanga (1995-2001 and 2007 to 2016). In 2016, she took on the role of the Municipal Mayor for three years, becoming the first woman mayor of Magalang. 

Following her first term as a mayor, she worked as the Executive Assistant of Governor Dennis G. Pineda for Health and Medical Affairs of the Province of Pampanga. Her team, under the leadership of the governor of Pampanga, is behind the success of the initiatives implemented to address the increasing challenges in the time of medical crisis and emergency experienced by the Kapampangans, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As an adept medical practitioner and leader, she spearheaded various projects and operations under the directives of the governor. To start, Malu served as the chief implementor of the ALAGANG NANAY Health Program of the Province of Pampanga, which provided free medical services to Kapampangans. During the recent pandemic, she led the COVID-19 Vaccination by institutionalizing an end-to-end vaccines delivery system for COVID-19 vaccines including supply-cold chain & logistics management, distribution, and deployment. Together with the Governor of Pampanga, they mobilized the COVID-19 Response Team of Pampanga leading the implementation of effective measures to address the health emergency/pandemic by employing the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate (PDITR) Strategies with innovative approaches, programs, and tactics. Lastly, she oversaw the operations of the 11 district and provincial hospitals of Pampanga, redesigning of their organizational structure and staffing pattern in compliance to the regulatory and statutory requirements of the Department of Health and other national agencies. 

She is now undertaking her second term as Municipal Mayor of Magalang after her election last July of 2022.
